Overview

Psychotherapy helps the person with relationships, roles, perceptions, beliefs and other struggles within the self. There are times in life when it can be hard to cope with difficult situations and challenging problems. Psychotherapy can provide a therapeutic encounter where together we can make sense of unwanted feelings and thoughts. Symptoms can be understood as manifestations of distress and their meanings can be explored together with care and respect. Eating disorders usually have a compelling and intense life of their own which must be addressed alongside decoding the conscious and unconscious meanings of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. The aim is to make life happier, easier to live and invite creativity and growth in the person.

I have over 35 years of experience helping people with emotional distress manifesting in an eating disorder working both individually and in groups. I am comfortable using words or images that are meaningful for the person seeking assistance and I proceed at their pace. Conversation enables connection and the possibility of new thoughts. New thoughts generate changes in behaviour.

Timing is everything. It takes courage to acknowledge that things are difficult and that you need help. This is an indication of health and strength. Wanting to reach out and express yourself, by whatever means, in the presence of another person is already evidence that you are motivated and ready for change.
